Beloved Salonnieres,
I come bearing exciting news! I'm happy to confirm that next week's Salon will feature a lecture by Professor David Ekserdjian, Professor of Art History at the University of Leicester, titled 'How to Get Ahead in Academia: Getting Your Research Published'. The Salon lecture will take place on Wednesday 1st February from 13:00 to 15:00 in ATT LG02 (Attenborough Seminar Block Basement).
Professor David Ekserdjian has recently returned to University of Leicester after a sabbatical for Leverhulme-funded research. He is a Trustee of the Tate and the National Gallery, and is a noted academic author and critic. Among his many publications are works on Italian artists, such as Parmigianino and Correggio, and on wider art history, encompassing national art movements and curated art collections.
This is the first (but hopefully not the last) Salon session in which a departmental member of staff joins us, and we are very grateful to Professor Ekserdjian for his willingness to share his experience and knowledge. His lecture will certainly be useful and informative to postgraduates from History of Art and Film but it may also be useful on a more broadly interdisciplinary level, so we would encourage you not only to attend if possible but also to let anyone who you think might be interested know about this event. All welcome!
In further news, the Salon committee is currently in discussion with IDeoGRAMS, the Interdepartmental Group for Research into the Arts Media and Society, with regard to the proposed joint research seminar in April, looking at visual culture, academic practice and ethics. We are keen to hear from anyone who would be interested in getting involved, whether in organising or presenting during the seminar. If you are interested in taking part in this event, or would like to present a paper at an individual session, the Salon would be delighted to hear from you.
